We are so excited to share that we are in the process of adopting a child! Both of us have felt drawn to adoption for a long time and always knew it would be a part of our family’s story. We are beyond excited to start working towards expanding our family and can't wait to shower a new baby with love.
It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $60,000 (or more!) so we have set up this campaign to help ease the financial burden that otherwise could easily be overwhelming. We will also be paying to travel and staying in a hotel once the baby is born for at least a week, possibly several weeks, while we coordinate and get approval to bring the baby home to Florida.
We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as they grow up. We are very happy to have your support and cannot wait for the next steps in this journey.
We had a meeting yesterday with the birth mom. We were all nervous but it went really well! We clicked with her and we had a great conversation. We are looking forward to another conversation with her in a few weeks. Everything is starting to feel very real and exciting!
Some exciting news!.
We are matched with a birth mom due in February with a little girl. We are so excited to be one step closer to starting our family. The next couple of months will be spent anxiously awaiting the arrival of the baby and preparing for a little one to join our family. We got to see an ultrasound photo of the baby which feels surreal!
We have been paying monthly living expenses for the birth mom and have paid part of the attorney fees. Once we go to pick up the baby, we pay majority of the fees for our attorney and the birth mother’s attorney. We are planning a comedy show fundraiser in January and hope many of you can come out to celebrate with us.
Some of you have asked and we are working on finalizing our registry. Thank you all for the support. We’ll post more information as we move along.
We've been busy the past few weeks! We found an adoption attorney that we're working with and have completed everything. Now the waiting begins. The attorney will send us information whenever she receives a birth mom referral and we decide whether or not we want our profile to be shown. Once we agree to show our profile, the birth mom then gets it to look at and decide if she wants to move forward with us as the adoptive parents. If she does, we'll have a phone call and meet the birth mom. If not, we go back on the list and keep waiting for someone to select us.
This process can be pretty quick once we get matched but we just don't know until we are selected by a birth mom. We're so excited to be this far in our journey and are waiting for the opportunity that's meant for us to work out!
We finally took the next step in our process and completed our home study. We had to wait a while because we were moving and they do it based off the house you’re in. We’re finally moved in to our new home and scheduled the visit. This consisted of a social services worker coming out to our home, looking around, and asking us a lot of questions. She gave us a lot of good information about the adoption process. We’re going to be reaching out to a few adoption attorneys and agencies over the next few weeks. From there, we’ll pick one to move forward with and let the waiting begin!
We had a fantastic Christmas celebrating with our family and are looking forward to the new year. We hope to finish the home study process in January so that we can move forward with an adoption consultant once everything has been approved. Thank you all for your support!
