David and Kayla Dodson
are adopting a child from Bulgaria
For many years my husband and I have had a heart for adoption. But the calling truly struck us on August 1 st, 2024. During our busy life of raising our 4 children, an image appeared from an adoption site we had long followed. That was the day we laid eyes on a precious 11-year-old little girl in an orphanage on the other side of the world. The instant we saw her, our hearts stretched out with yearning for her. We were immediately in love with this child we had never met. There was just something about her. We prayed that the Lord would send this precious child to a family who would love, embrace and cherish her. After praying about it, we quickly realized that we were just that family. The kids quickly fell in love! They talk of their “new sister” constantly and make all sorts of plans to help take care of her.
V is now 12 and has been in a children’s home in Bulgaria since she was 6. Although very well cared for, she has expressed many times to her caregivers that she would love to be adopted into a forever family. V is special in so many ways.
She has a diagnosis of mild cerebral palsy and mild intellectual delays that we are so excited to be able to provide the best therapies and medical care needed so that she can reach her highest potential. She has an amazing personality. She is very social in her home and loves to make friends at her current school. Her favorite color is pink, and she LOVES baby dolls!! (A trait 2 of our daughters have)
We have seen God move in mighty ways since August 2024 - it’s been an expedited experience surpassing our expectations and reiterating to us that this is meant to be. We have completed the integral and important “home study” (a momentous process to ensure our ability and integrity in the adoption process) and have been officially matched with V to our great joy!
Our first trip to Bulgaria is quickly approaching. As a part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption- related costs can easily total up to $46,000 or more. And the first visit and other travel expenses to bring V home will easily be $10,000. We’re doing all we can to make this happen, but your help will be invaluable! All donation amounts go toward bringing V home and no amount is too small!
We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of a community that saved a life and brought a little girl home to her long-desired “forever family.” As a family we pray for V daily. Will you also join with us in praying for this transition in her life?
We thank you from the depths of our hearts!
